Against the Grain

Against the grain was built for the Colorado biker build off 2008.  It started with a frame from US choppers that I modified the back side of so that the seat would be in the same path as the backbone.  My dad and I designed the suspension for the seat with a hidden internal spring that travels inside of the backbone.

Most of the engine parts came from FHP a company that made replica knuckleheads.  I replaced the front head and cylinder with a rear set.  This allows the intakes to both come out to the front and both exhausts to come out to towards the back.  In order to make this dual rear setup work I had to find another rear tappet block, rotate it 180º, and then re-weld and mill out new passages for the pushrods and oil.  A panhead style cam blank was used since the lobes are all spaced out evenly.  Craig from Black Widow Cams measured and ground the cam to work with the two rear heads.  I ground the inside of the idler gear to allow enough space for the cam lobe to squeeze by.

I welded up new intake manifolds and for the dual linkert carbs and make a set of exhast pipes that I polished up and then nickel plated.  The handlebars were made up from extra bars that were laying around the shop then nickel plated.
